DecisionRx Appoints Former VA Secretary David Shulkin, MD as a Clinical Advisor

Appointment reinforces company’s commitment to delivering innovative evidence-based care.

Indianapolis, IN — July 9, 2025 — DecisionRx, a pioneer in precision prescribing and medication optimization, today announced the appointment of The Honorable David J. Shulkin, MD, former U.S. Secretary of Veterans Affairs and a nationally recognized healthcare leader, to its Clinical Advisory Board.

Dr. Shulkin brings decades of experience at the highest levels of government and health system leadership. He served as the ninth Secretary of the Department of Veterans Affairs under President Trump and as VA Under Secretary for Health under President Obama—making him the only person unanimously confirmed by the U.S. Senate to serve in both roles across administrations. He also previously led major health systems including Beth Israel Medical Center in New York and Morristown Medical Center in New Jersey, and currently serves on the Board of Sanford Health, one of the nation’s largest rural health systems.

“Dr. Shulkin’s leadership has shaped how this country delivers care to millions of veterans,” said Travis Morgan, President and Co-founder of DecisionRx. “His appointment reinforces our commitment to delivering the highest available standard of care to those who’ve served our country. His insights will be invaluable as we expand our clinical evidence base and continue innovating how medication decisions are made—especially for vulnerable and complex populations.”

As part of the Clinical Advisory Board, Dr. Shulkin will collaborate with other national thought leaders including Dr. Steven Goldberg, former Chief Medical Officer of Quest Diagnostics.  Together, the board guides DecisionRx on clinical strategy, research design, and health policy engagement to ensure the company’s solutions remain aligned with emerging standards and real-world needs.

“DecisionRx is transforming how we match medications to individual patients, using science and technology to solve a problem that’s plagued healthcare for decades,” said Dr. Shulkin. “I look forward to working with the team to support better outcomes for veterans, Medicare beneficiaries, and the entire healthcare system.”

Dr. Shulkin is a board-certified internist and host of the Policy Vets Podcast. He also serves on the faculty of the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences and is the author of It Shouldn’t Be This Hard to Serve Your Country: Our Broken Government and the Plight of Veterans.
